The Air Conditioning Contractors Association of Austin will feature an information training session on "Static Pressure Loss Differences Between Flexible Duct And Sheet Metal Duct". Chris Van Rite, Vice President Sales, M&M Manufacturing Company presents an overview of static pressure testing performed at Texas A&M University Energy Systems Laboratory. Attendees will be given a TDLR approved ductulator derived from this research.

FORT WORTH, TX, OCTOBER 25, 2012: The 2009 code change that required 28 gauge residential sheet metal ducts has been reversed in the 2015 International Mechanical Code (IMC). The code change proposal submitted by ACCA, modified by SMACNA and supported in floor debate by representatives of Ductmate Industries and M&M Manufacturing Company was approved in the IMC Final Action Hearings.

Many states have struggled with how, and even whether or not, to enforce the change that first appeared in the 2009 Mechanical Code and International Residential Code (IRC). “The code change hearings for the IRC will be in May of 2013 and we are optimistic of getting the 28 gauge requirement removed from that code as well. What we’ve learned is that we have to be vigilant and engaged in the code adoption process in order to protect the interests of the HVAC industry”, said Chris Van Rite, VP Sales, M&M Manufacturing Company.

M&M Manufacturing is rich with stories that portray the American dream- humble beginnings that led to greater things. In 1958, M.M. Stepp and L.M. Watkins purchased a sheet metal shop that had gone out of business in Fort Worth, Texas. The men were able to transform the 2 man sheet metal shop into an industry leader in steel duct pipe and fittings in the Southern Midwest. M&M now has over 600 employees at four plants in Texas and one in Arkansas, with over 600,000 square feet of manufacturing.

In July of 1965, just 7 years after the inception of M&M Manufacturing, a young man named Melvin began working at M&M. At that time, there were fewer than 10 employees at M&M. His starting hourly wage was $1.30. Everyone, including the owners, worked to make product, load delivery trucks and provide customer service.

On December 22nd, 2010, M&M Manufacturing held a retirement party to honor Melvin Nobles, the Vice President of Warehouse Operations, who had been working for M&M for nearly 46 years! In attendance were customers, former and current M&M employees and family members.

Fort Worth, TX. (Nov. 10, 2009) – Chris Van Rite, Vice President of Sales at M&M Manufacturing in Fort Worth , TX, was named the 2009 Speaker of the Year by the Refrigeration Service Engineers Society (RSES). The Walter B Stopera, CM, Speaker of the Year award nominations are submitted by members of the RSES to recognize a person for consistently providing outstanding educational presentations on all levels of RSES meetings and conferences.

The award was presented at the 72nd RSES Annual Conference in Bloomington, Minn. on Oct. 29, 2009. The 2009 Speaker of the Year award was sponsored by the RSES Garden State Chapter, Newark, NJ .

Van Rite was nominated for his presentations on Airflow and code changes. Over the past four years, Van Rite has presented in several different venues including international and regional RSES conferences, New York and Texas RSES chapters, and many sister organizations such as American Society of Heating Refrigeration and Air-Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE), Air Conditioning Contractors of America (ACCA), Plumbing-Heating-Cooling Contractors Association (PHCC), and Spiral Duct Manufactures Association (SPIDA).

Van Rite was first nominated by the former president of the Southwest Regional Association (SWRA) of RSES, W.D. “Mac” McCarthy, CM. McCarthy said Van Rite is a knowledgeable speaker who is “known for his availability to speak to any RSES chapter.” McCarthy also said that Van Rite “promotes the motto ‘service through knowledge’.”

An RSES member, Clifton Micheli, stated in his nomination, “Anyone who attends one of Chris’ presentations will go away better informed and do a better job for his customers.”
